The department of psychology is having following degree programs at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate level. Additional applied courses at diploma level are also approved. The Department has three units, one at Main Gurukula Campus (Haridwar), others are at the Kanya Gurukula Campus (Haridwar) and Kanya Gurukula Campus (Dehradun).

Ph.D. in Psychology

The department had started Ph.D. in psychology in the year 1984 and large number of research scholars have been conferred the degree of doctor of philosophy in psychology since then. The research scholars are provided very productive and encouraging environment to pursue the topic of research in any area of psychology including application oriented topics in clinical psychology, counselling psychology, health psychology, mental health and rehabilitation psychology. A consolidated advertisement for admission into Ph.D. program is released annually. The candidates having 55% marks at post graduation level in psychology (50% for reserved categories as per rules) are eligible to participate in the process. Details of qualification and other eligibility are specified in the information brochure which is released as and when admission process is initiated. Minimum duration of the programme is three years.

Pre-Ph.D. course work:

The students admitted/registered for doctoral programme in the department are required to complete mandatory pre-Ph.D. course work of one semester. At the end of the semester, theory examinations are held in two papers (i) Application of Psychology (ii) Research Methodology, Computer Application and Research Ethics. This course work equips the research scholars to take up suitable topic of interest for the thesis and master scientific aspects of methodology for acquisition, analysis and interpretation of the research data. M.A./M.Sc in Psychology

This course is open to the students having Bachelors Degree in any discipline from UGC recognized University/Institute. Admission will be given through entrance test. Syllabus for Entrance Test. The students having Bachelor Degree in Science are awarded M.Sc Degree in Psychology and all others receive M.A. in Psychology. The syllabus and teaching of this course is focus on fundamentals of psychology, psychopathology, psycho-diagnosis, counselling, psychotherapy, health psychology, therapeutic techniques, cognitive processes and rehabilitation psychology, research methodology and statistics etc. This course prepares students for wide range of career options in the field of teaching, research and applications. B.A.

This course is open to the students having 10+2 certificate in any discipline from recognized college/institute. This is a six semester course which cover six core theory papers, four skill papers, two generic papers and six practical papers. This is very useful course in psychology which prepares students for higher education at post graduation level and advanced specializations thereafter leading to multiple career options in teaching, research and applications.
